The ordinary silicone primer vs Nyx angel veil primer

The ordinary silicone primer vs Nyx angel veil primer

For today’s post I am going to be comparing The ordinary high-adherence silicone primer with the Nyx angel veil primer. I ordered both of these on the cultbeauty website. They both claim to be mattifying and mostly they should keep my make-up on all day long. So today I am going to test if they do, and which one does best.

I have done my usual skincare routine which includes moisturising my face. On the left side of my face I will use the ordinary silicone primer and on the right side the nyx angel veil primer. I will be using powder and setting spray just because that’s what I would do normally.

Application – Straight off I notice that the ordinary silicone primer stinks. I do not like the smell of this at all. But my skin does feel sticky, which is exactly what you want so that the foundation sticks to the face better. The nyx angel veil primer glides on easier but does not feel sticky at all, which has me a little bit worried. Also the ordinary primer claims to also be pore-minimising but I see no sign of that.

Application of the foundation – For my foundation today I have chosen the Barry M flawless matte finish foundation and I will be blending that in with the Makeup revolution beauty sponge. This foundation one doesn’t claim to be long wearing so I can really put the primers to the test. Immediately I can see that the foundation is sitting much nicer and covering my face better on the right side, on top of the nyx angel veil primer. I’ve had to add more foundation on the left side, on top of the ordinary silicone primer.

4 hours in update – It has been 4 hours now since I’ve put on my make-up. My foundation is still looking good on both sides but I can see that it’s holding up a little better on the side of the nyx angel veil primer. There are more imperfections peeking through on the ordinary silicone primer. I am also noticing that the nyx angel veil primer minimised my pores, but it doesn’t claim that it would, whilst the ordinary silicone primer claims it does do that and I see no sign of it.

7 hours in update – The foundation on the left side of my face, on top of the ordinary silicone primer hasn’t changed since the last update. The right side, on the nyx angel veil primer has faded a bit more since the last update, but it still has more coverage than the left side.

Final thoughts – In the end both primers made the foundation stay on pretty well, the side on the ordinary started fading a little bit earlier but the nyx side faded a little as well, just later. But, the side of the nyx angel veil primer did fade less, plus the smell from the ordinary primer is very disgusting, in my opinion, soo…

The winner is… Nyx Angel Veil Primer

Have you tried any of these two primers? What do you think of them?
