Another week, another favourites. This week has been pretty busy although I’ve hardly left the house and put any make-up on. I spent almost all week finishing up my final paper for one of my courses and I’m so glad to say that it is now finally done with! (until I get my grade back and it’s a fail, but let me have two weeks of bliss first)
I kind of immediately have to start working on my next paper for my other course. Which, thankfully, isn’t due till the 5th of April but it’s a lot of work and I’d rather not do it all last minute so I’m trying to start it today, let’s see how it goes.
10 things I’m loving this week
Time to check blogs Tuesday after class | This may sound like a really small – why tf is that a favourite – thing. But I’ve had such a busy week before handing in that paper that I didn’t really have much time to just sit down and read some blog posts. So when we finished class early Tuesday I had to be at the station a little later so I didn’t have anything to do for a while. I just stayed in class, relaxed and read some of my favourites.
Visiting KRO-NCRV | The reason I had to go to the station after class was because we had an ‘excursion’ (can you still say that at uni?) to visit the company KRONCRV. This is a tv broadcasting network. So you can image, as Media and Culture – previously Film, theatre and television studies – how much we would benefit from this trip. It was mostly talks from several different people in several different sectors. It wasn’t as informative as I might’ve liked, but it was still a good trip.
I actually thought I wouldn’t be able to go. It was said that on Wednesday evening we had to fill in a form to go. Stupid me had completely forgot to set an alarm so obviously didn’t remember. The next day in class, whilst talking to a friend, it suddenly dawned on me that I hadn’t done it. I was so incredibly mad at myself I could punch me. Then a little while later I saw I received an e-mail from the student association. I was convinced it was an e-mail saying I was on the waiting list, but alas, it was actually an e-mail with all the information of where we would meet. I was so happy I could’ve screamed – didn’t tho, as I was in the middle of the kantine.
Two year anniversary | On Tuesday as well, Tuesday was an eventful day, it was me and my boyfriend’s two year anniversary! We normally don’t really do much but I got him a rose and he got me something special too, if you follow me on Instagram you might have already read this story but let me explain.
When we first started dating we had found a one euro coin in my aunts shed (I was living with my aunt back then). I told him he could have it, and after much insisting he accepted it. Then a year later, for our one year anniversary he gave me a one euro coin where he had lasered out the inside and gave me the outside so we each had one part of it. And the coin, it was the one I had given him the year before! So he had kept it all that time.
I voted | Wednesday was the day to vote for the municipal elections. It’s so important to vote, wherever you are. We are lucky to be part of a democracy so you should use it. Next time, if you are over-age, go out and vote. Doesn’t matter on who, just vote.
How to get away with murder | I finished watching one of my favourite shows ever. I’m so sad but also so excited for the fourth season, which is bound to come because they cannot leave us with so many unanswered questions.
Skype with my bestie | My best friend lives in England so we don’t get to see each other so much. We always make plans to skype but we both have incredibly busy lives – me with uni, work, social life and him being in the navy and all, okay, maybe he’s a little busier than me overall.
So Saturday morning we finally didn’t forget and actually Skyped for like an hour and a half long and it was so nice. It was great to catch up and just have a laugh, because we always do. I can’t wait to hopefully see him again in the summer.
Almond milk Baileys | If you follow me on Instagram you will already know how hyped up I got when I saw that my local liquor store was selling almond milk Baileys! Baileys is my absolute favourite alcoholic drink ever. Second is Malibu fyi. But since going vegan I haven’t been able to drink it because it has milk in. So when I heard that Baileys had an almond milk one, which is completely vegan it made me so happy. I heard this about two years ago I think.
Fast forward almost two years – that is how long I have been waiting for this, so you can imagine my excitement – it’s finally being sold at my local liquor store and I am over the moon. Bit pricey, but totally worth it.
A spring photoshoot | Thursday I went on a little walk after lunch just to get some fresh air. On my way there were so many beautiful flowers everywhere I couldn’t not snap a few photos. One of them being the one above. I think they turned out pretty nice for being shot on my phone. I am looking into buying a new proper camera though as my old one broke and I’m thinking of the Olympus Pen. Any recommendations?
Lie in weekend | After a busy week full of studying I’ve had a pretty relaxed weekend and actually had a lie in on Saturday, and a tiny one on Sunday. By a lie in I am talking about a lie in for a girl who normally wakes up at 7 am everyday. So getting out of bed at 9, I consider that a lie in.
Dear white people | I finished watching Dear White People this week and you have to go watch it (see, I put have in italics to emphasise, that’s how important it is). I started watching it a long while ago but didn’t really like the first few episodes so didn’t immediately finish it. But trust me, it gets better.
It’s about a college where there’s a lot of black people, and the show is essentially about the life they live there and the underlying abuse they experience every single day. It shows so well how white privileged people don’t realise what goes on day to day because they are not directly affected by it. Which is such a shame as it’s horrible that racism still exists and on this mass scale. Which is exactly what the show has tried to portray and I think it’s done a fabulous job. So if you haven’t watched it yet, get your butt over to Netflix, and start.
