Freshly painted nails, an open window, the sun out, birds chipping, shoes off, sounds like Spring to me. After being gravely disappointed yesterday when I went outside, today has completely made up for that in three fold. And this week is looking really promising as well. With 20 degrees and sunny days I think I might just be able to get used to this.
I have actually not been too into make-up recently, with papers being handed in and me not leaving the house much. But since the sun is out I don’t have any excuse to not leave the house and I intend to change my attitude towards make-up again. I want to start experimenting more and trying out old products. Old as in products I still need to use up ~old~ because I want to finish up some of the things in my drawers and not buy anything new unless it’s a product that I actually need because I don’t have anything left in my collection.
But I have been into skincare, haircare and fashion a lot more recently. Which my skin and hair has been thanking me for, although have I been thanking my sudden need to splurge on fashion? Not so much. Anyway, I wanted to share some beauty and fashion favourites from the past few months. A good ol’ favourites post for ya’ll, ’cause it’s been a while.
A few beauty and fashion favourites
Glycolic acids have been all the rage lately. Almost all the big (and small) skincare brands have one, like the Pixi Glow Tonic or the REN AHA tonic (both still on my list to try out). I heard so many good things about these types of exfoliants that I had to get my hands on one. I picked up the Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution from The Ordinary after reading so many good reviews, plus it’s really inexpensive so I thought it would be great for my first ever chemical exfoliant. I have been absolutely loving it. I started using it every other day but I’ve come to a point where I can use it every day now, during my nighttime routine. It tingles just a tiny little bit but it’s getting less and less every time. It leaves my skin amazingly soft and glowy and I can truly tell the difference if I’ve been using this a while.
Haircare has never really been something I look into or even use anything other than shampoo and conditioner. Which is probably why last time that my hair was quite long I couldn’t tame it or do anything with it so it just made me angry and I eventually cut it short. Don’t get me wrong, I loved it short, but I want to grow it now and I can’t do that if I don’t look into what I can do with my hair to tame it a little more. Because if not it’s just one big pile of frizziness. In come The Body Shop banana hair care range to the rescue. I mentioned it in my weekly favourites so I won’t go on too much about it. But let me just tell you that if you have long hair and the ends never seem to do what you want them to, buy the shampoo, conditioner and hair mask. They may be a little pricey all together but they are amazing for your hair and it will take you quite a while to get through.
Another thing I mentioned in my weekly lovings last week was nail art. I had painted my nails really simple but really cute in my opinion and it’s inspired me to do more of that. So I took out what I feel is the most summery colour to ever be on the face of the earth and did some nail art. I really like how it turned out and it’s getting me super excited for spring and summer and warmer weathers!!
As I said I have been wanting to make more of an effort with my make-up again so what better way to take it up a notch than to add false eyelashes?! House of Lashes lashes* are great for those occasions. I have four pairs, all pretty natural as my hooded eyes don’t match with extremely big lashes. I have the pairs siren mini, boudoir lite, wispy mini and au naturale. I definitely don’t wear these everyday but they are absolutely great for when I just want to give my make-up look a little extra oomph. I’m still learning how to actually apply the lashes in under 30 minutes (how do people do it so quick?) but I’m getting better at every try! I have especially been loving the au naturale lashes as they are perfect for everyday wear.
Onto the two fashion favourites. As I said I have been getting more and more into fashion and also into accessories. I bought myself this necklace from ASOS as I didn’t have any gold necklaces at all and I was really missing them in my practically non-existent collection. I am eyeing up this beautiful one now too and just waiting for it to go back in stock so that I can quickly snap it up. A t-shirt I’ve been loving was a collaboration with Keith Haring and ASOS. I think Keith Haring is a great artist and I love that he’s done this! He made two t-shirts for men and two for women, so if this one doesn’t float your boat, there’s always another one as well. But be quick, because they sell out fast! I have been wearing this all the time and it’s been in basically all of the washes I’ve done since I got it, it’s simply amazing.
