At the beginning of the year I, together with 80% of other bloggers, wrote a post on my new year’s resolutions/goals. Everything I wanted to achieve in 2018 laid out in a blog post of less than a 1000 words.
This year I tried to make realistic resolutions and things that I really cared about completing this year. So stuff like: eat healthy or travel weren’t included because they are way to broad and, for me, not always achievable.
Instead I made more specific resolutions, and even though they didn’t all have a specific number that you can count (like go to the gym 3 times a week) I did think at the time that I could actually complete these goals. So let’s see if I was right.
My 2018 New Year’s Resolutions
Grow my blog (and go self-hosted)
Well I definitely did this (at least the going self-hosted part). At the beginning of the year, fairly quick after writing this resolution, I bought my domain with siteground and am now self-hosted with wordpress. I’ve said it a couple of times already but I am seriously so happy I took the plunge I don’t actually want to stop talking about it. There’s so much freedom to change whatever you want and personalise it entirely, which I love. And if you’ve just gone self-hosted I wrote a post on all the things that you should do after switching platforms that you might forget about.
In terms of growing my blog, I’m working on it. I’ve definitely grown it in comparison to last year, but it’s definitely not where I want it to be yet. Although, will it ever really be? Because don’t we always just want to keep growing? That’s what makes it fun!
Besides, I’m in the process of thinking about the future of my blog and the type of posts I want to write and I might even be doing a small rebranding in August, although that’s not decided yet. I’m also working with the lovely Charlotte to look at my blog and socials, evaluate where they are now, what needs to be improved and to help me grow to get there!
Make more of an effort with my fashion
This I have definitely been doing! Even better than my original resolution, I have actually found my style a bit. I am very much black and white clothing girl, simple patterns and prints is what I like to wear most and what I will wear for years to come. Knowing my style has not only made it easier to put more effort into my daily fashion to look nice, it’s also stopped me from buying clothes that I will not actually like wearing or won’t know how to wear within a day or two of buying it.
Take more photos
This is one that I haven’t been doing so much. I have been loving taking photos for my blog more than ever, and I’ve been so much creative with my photography since the beginning of the year. But I haven’t actually been taking photos that aren’t specifically for the blog.
But fear not, the year is not over yet. I think the best way to make sure I do still complete this goal is by taking my Olympus Pen out more. There have been several occasions where there was a party for example, and the hosts would have loved to have photos of the day and I could have been that photographer. It wouldn’t only be nice for them, but also for me to practice my people photography. But alas, both times I forgot, and any other time I go out I also forget.
Mental note on that one to NOT FORGET
Eat less processed foods
I would say overall this is going pretty well. I have not banned processed foods entirely out of my life, that wasn’t my resolution after all because I knew I wouldn’t be able to keep it. But as I mentioned in my original post, this was a resolution of mine last year as well, and it’s not on here again because I failed last year, but because I want to eat even less processed foods. Next year it will probably be on there again because this way each year I can make a conscious effort to minimise my intake even more.
I have restrained from buying and having chocolate and chocolate spread in the house. I am eating enough for the three meals of the day so I don’t want to snack so much, and even if I did want to snack most of the time I wouldn’t have any unhealthy choices. So that is mainly how I’m keeping up with this goal and actually, I’ve been craving sweet stuff way less since I know I don’t have it anyway!
Eat more fruit
This was going well, and now not so much. I don’t know what it is with fruit but I kind of have a love-hate relationship with it. Sometimes I really like eating fruit, and I like to make myself fruit salads, and other times I despise having that as a snack and would rather stay hungry. Don’t ask me why.
I know from myself that forcing myself to eat anything is not going to help since I’ll just end up despising it even more. So I think it’s just a case of waiting this phase out, eating as much fruit as doesn’t seem disgusting to me and eating loads of veggies to compensate.
